Angelica rolled over in the shelter bed. Life was zipped up in a suitcase. Her husband wasn't beside her. The ache for her family to be together once more was more painful than the ache of hunger.
Angelica wanted, more than anything, the simple things back.
Brushing their teeth in their own bathroom. Breakfast at their own table. Her children falling asleep in their own bedrooms.
But affordable housing seemed impossible to come by. And separating across different shelters each night was wearing her thin. Angelica stared at the ceiling.

An Open Door to Restoration
Angelica didn't realize it at the time, but when her husband found CityTeam's men's shelter, the whole family found a pathway toward stability.
The mother of two started showing up each morning for breakfast and a hot shower. Something felt different there. She always left feeling dignified and hopeful—like she'd come over for a meal in someone's home. Every visit to CityTeam was building a relationship that went beyond meeting immediate needs.
A restoration story was unfolding.
Kickstarting their Comeback
Through hot meals and caring support, Angelica and her family connected with housing placement services. Today, they are safe and secure in a home of their own, and Angelica’s husband is working a steady job.
"CityTeam opened the door for us and offered us food boxes, groceries, and clothing," Angelica says. "They told us, 'Whenever you need somewhere to come, you can come here.'"
Now, on the other side of homelessness, Angelica is opening her own door to the community. It all started with nourishing meals that led to lasting support, meaningful relationships, and renewed hope.
"Without CityTeam, there wouldn't be the joy in our lives."
Today, Angelica and her family continue to grow in stability and community. The support they received provided more than immediate relief—it created opportunities for long-term growth and a future filled with hope. They’re also getting plugged into a church community for spiritual growth.
Day by day, poverty falls further behind them.
