A pâtisserie chef who trained at a highly regarded culinary institute, Jeff owned a successful small restaurant. But when the economy faltered, he lost everything.
At one time, he would offer his delicious leftovers at the end of the night to the homeless and hungry. Now at Cityteam Portland, Jeff finds himself humbled to be on the receiving end of that same kind of generosity.
“I’ve learned to appreciate being fed,” he said.
He also appreciates staying at Cityteam’s shelter where he is safe and warm at night. And he often attends our Bible studies. “You go around the table to share your thankfulness, then you go around again and share what you are struggling with, and then they pray,” he said. “I like that. They really care about me.”
Jeff is already on his way to getting back on his feet.
“I’m looking at my future,” he said. “Portland has a vibrant restaurant scene. I’m incredibly hopeful.”
