It wasn’t until Jason was 30 that he had his first real Christmas.
“I was raised in a home that wasn’t safe,” Jason said. “My parents used drugs. It was kind of like a family thing.”
By the age of 14, Jason was using meth, too. Instead of sitting around a Christmas tree opening gifts, his whole family celebrated by getting high.
During high school, Jason was a star athlete.
“My grades dropped to where I couldn’t play baseball,” he recalled. “I decided why go to school if I couldn’t play?”
He dropped out as a sophomore.
The Hidden Blessing of Jail
After that, he spent more than half of his life in jail.
“Jail is where I got my sleep and food,” said Jason. Jail is also where he heard of Cityteam.
“I kept wondering why I couldn’t stay clean,” Jason remembers. “When I came to Cityteam, I cried for four days. That’s when I realized what I was missing.”
Jason’s first Christmas at Cityteam was the first time he understood the importance of the holiday. He spent the day worshipping Jesus with his wife, attending church and celebrating with his Cityteam family.
“I am now a Christian. I’m not even the same person anymore,” he says.
That’s the type of life transformation your gifts and prayers make possible!
