When Maya found out she was pregnant, she stopped using drugs. She knew from her past that even though she was clean, because of her history of addiction she was at risk of having her son taken from her. That’s why she decided to come to Cityteam’s Heritage House.
“If I didn’t come to Heritage House, they would have taken him when he was born, even though I wasn’t using drugs,” Maya said.
“He’s a miracle baby,” she said. “When he was born, his hand was over his head and his shoulder. The doctor said a lot of babies die from it. It’s a miracle he survived.”
Maya herself is a miracle.
She is clean and sober and focused on learning the best ways to care for her baby boy. She plans to go back to school to get an accounting degree.
Without Heritage Home and the support of people like you, Maya would have had nowhere else to go. She could be on the streets and her son might have never known the love of his mother.
