The first time Dean became homeless, he was just a teenager. He was abused on the streets and forced into male prostitution just to get by.
“But I don’t do that anymore,” he told us. “Now I know I can come to Cityteam for a meal, so I don’t have to go back to my old life.”
For a time, Dean lived in a trailer. But his roommate was offended by his Christian faith and beat him with a nine-iron golf club, fracturing his skull. While he was in the hospital, someone stole his trailer. When he was discharged, he was homeless again.
That’s how he ended up at Cityteam on the morning we met him. He told us with grateful smiles while eating a meal — “Even if I don’t get family support and love, I’m being fed.”
It was Dean’s very first meal at Cityteam and he didn’t realize yet that he could find the support and love he is yearning for here. But that’s really what the meals here are all about.
Your meals help bring the spirit of compassion to life. Without your meals, people like Dean would be digging in a dumpster or facing even worse horrors to find a meal.
Thank you for caring. Thank you for loving. Thank you for giving.
