In quick succession, Allister’s dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and died, he went through a painful breakup, and his house caught on fire.
It was too much for him to deal with. He just wanted to escape the chaos and the pain. He turned to drugs.
“I was so mad at God and I just hated everybody,” he said. “I just wanted to get high, relax, and not think about it.”
As his addiction took over his life, he began hearing about Cityteam. At first he pushed it out of his mind, but when it kept coming up he decided it was worth looking into.
“I thought, this must be meant to be,” Allister said. “I couldn’t say no.”
A Pleasant Surprise
Allister had friends who had gone to other rehab programs and within months were back to their old habits. He figured that Cityteam would be the same. He was wrong.
“When I came here, I realized they care about you as a person. The whole point is to get you clean and start being happy about being clean,” he said.
‘I’m starting to reap the benefits of staying clean and working on recovery. This is my first time in a program, so I’m taking it all in and I enjoy it. I love it here.”
