For just $1.89, you can give give a neighbor experiencing hunger and homelessness a hot Christmas meal!
We’ve all heard people say you should “pay it back” or “pay it forward.” CityTeam graduate Aaron is doing just that. Aaron is heavily involved in our Trade Orientation Program (TOP), helping the men in our recovery program learn about stable, good-paying trades — such as electrician, mason, and pipe fitter — so that they can map out a new road in life. As an apprentice pipe fitter, Aaron is learning the trade, earning a living wage, and working hard toward his next promotion. But life wasn’t always this good for Aaron.
Several years ago, he went through a difficult divorce. His wife and children moved out, hoping he’d get help with his drinking. Ultimately, his alcoholism and bad decisions led to jail, probation, and then homelessness. Battling rockbottom self-worth and depression, Aaron knew he needed to change. He finally made a good decision: he gave CityTeam the chance to help him restore his life. Thanks to CityTeam’s comprehensive recovery program, Aaron now has a very different life. “Learning how to respond instead of react was a huge revelation,” he says.
Today, Aaron is employed, paying rent, and was recently recognized by his boss for doing great work. “Being responsible financially and having that feeling of worth is just amazing,” he says.
