Keri was born into an abusive and dangerous living situation. When she was six years old, Child Protective Services stepped in, removed Keri from her parents and placed her in the foster care system until she turned 18.
After leaving the foster care system, Keri was homeless. She didn’t have anyone to turn to. Seeking love and acceptance, she soon became pregnant.
A friend from her foster home found Cityteam’s Heritage Home on the Internet. Keri came right to our door explaining her situation and asked if we could help her change her life.
A Fresh Start
Seven months later, Keri used the skills that volunteers taught her in the Learning Center to get a job as an administrative assistant. And the parenting and recovery classes she focused on prepared her to be the best mom she can be.
While at Heritage House, Keri gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. It was right before Christmas.
“This will be the first Christmas I’ve ever had where I felt safe and loved — and I get to share that with my baby,” she said a few weeks before the holiday.
“I am so grateful for the help I’ve gotten to transform my life. I now know that there is a God who loves me and wants the best for us,” Keri said.
