Victor’s been shot at multiple times. After joining a gang when he was 11, it’s a miracle he’s still alive.
“I was ready to die,” he said about his life before Cityteam. “I didn’t have anything to live for.”
One of the youngest people in our program, Victor decided he was ready to leave his gang life behind when he had a dream.
“I call that dream my spiritual awakening,” he said. “I was laying on the floor and I couldn’t get up. People were saying goodbye to me like I was dead.”
Victor decided that 19 was too young to die. The very next day, his parole officer suggested he go to Cityteam. He knew that his dream had been a warning. The moment he came through our door, he knew he was in the right place.
“This program helped me change a lot. Now I have God in my life,” Victor said.
During his time at Cityteam, Victor also learned about the power of forgiveness.
“There are people here that used to be my enemies,” he said. “I get along perfectly with them. I always thought that they were my enemies just because they were from a different gang. But we’re all humans. We’re all the same.”
