11-Year-Old Gets Her Feet Washed

SF_MaddyMaddy and her parents aren’t homeless anymore. Instead, they live in one of the tiny 10’ x 10’ single room occupancy hotel rooms (SRO) just down the street from Cityteam on 6th Street.

Even if they could afford food, they don’t have anywhere to cook it.

“You pay top dollar for groceries in this city,” said Maddy’s dad. “Milk is $4.14. If you walk a little further to Target, you can save 40 cents.”

Without You, They’d Go Hungry
To make ends meet, Maddy’s dad brings her to Cityteam for a good, hot meal while her mother is at work.

Maddy likes having lunch with us and she loves getting one of the foot treatments that Cityteam provides for the poor and homeless. Those few minutes allow her to feel safe and be an 11-year-old kid again. They show her how much God loves her. She rarely misses a chance to have her feet washed.

Being able to receive a warm meal can be the highlight of a day growing up in the Tenderloin, providing an emotional boost that is impossible to obtain any other way.

“The meals from Cityteam keep our family from having to skip a meal some days,” Maddy’s dad says.
