When Nick lost his job of 27 years, his devastation led to anxiety and depression. Soon after, he lost his family and his home. Nick’s depression led him to stop eating, and the result of starvation put him in the hospital for five days. He was discharged two days before Thanksgiving with nowhere to go. That’s when he came to Cityteam.
Nick could only get a few bites of turkey down on Thanksgiving. It would be weeks before he could eat a complete meal. So instead of enjoying the feast himself, he helped provide the meal for others. “We served food all day long,” he said. “It made me feel good to help other people.”
Nick found the will, faith, and practical tools to recover his health, grieve the loss of his family and start his life over at Cityteam. “I’m deeply grateful to Cityteam. If I had not been accepted here, I would have died out there.”Read More Stories
Your involvement is what makes it possible to change lives, families, and communities. Every program at Cityteam, from a hot meal to addiction recovery, is only possible because of support from individuals, companies, churches, and schools who care about helping others. You don’t have to be a superhero to make a difference. Here are some ways YOU can get involved.
At Cityteam Chester, we’ve been blessed to serve the poor and homeless for 27 years. We bring hope to people in so many ways — some of which you may not know about. In fact, our volunteers and donors often tell us that they’re surprised at the breadth of our programs.
Cityteam is more than a homeless shelter and a soup kitchen. We’re more than an addiction recovery center. We’ve also become more than an outreach to the city of Chester. People from all over the Greater Delaware Valley have heard that if they meet neighbors in need, Cityteam is a place of refuge and help. The concerns can be overwhelming, but we believe that God has called us to help in any way we can.
Our Food Services program meets the needs of families by providing a box of food to help those struggling with hunger.
We work with parents to ensure that their children maintain a healthy environment.
Our shelter provides a safe place for those struggling with homelessness to sleep.
