SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS – Nonprofit Cityteam offered free Thanksgiving meals to whoever wanted to join in celebrating the holiday with traditional fare on Thursday in San Jose. Guests received haircuts, winter coats, feet washing and new shoes.
ABC 7 NEWS – An estimated 300 volunteers spent three or more hours at CityTeam in San Jose, a 60-year-old institution that operates shelters for the homeless on Thanksgiving Day.
However, most are not cooking or serving the turkey dinners you’d expect on Thanksgiving. The majority are helping to wash feet, to fit clients with shoes and to cut their hair. It’s all about dignity.
Array’s Philadelphia office was introduced to Cityteam as 20 staff and family members convened to serve dinner to those in need at Hope Café – where the goal is to serve their “guests as if they were dining at a five-star restaurant.” Already in the business of creating beautiful healing environments, Array’s designers couldn’t help but notice that the physical environment did not instill the sense of hope one might wish for. Working with Cityteam, we created a work plan to improve their space for those they serve.
Julia Craskey of Broomall, a soon-to-be- sixth grader at St. Pius School, collects backpacks each summer for CityTeam in Chester in lieu of birthday gifts for herself. She keeps a handy bin on her porch where friends, family and neighbors drop off school supplies and backpacks to add to her collection all summer long.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) – A massive undertaking in San Jose, where Cityteam Ministries is preparing to give away 5,000 Thanksgiving food boxes Tuesday at Avaya Stadium to families in need. It’s 2,000 more families than last year and the organization is still short 600 turkeys.

PORTLAND, Ore. — There’s something to be said about a mother’s love for her son.
“He is my only son. He’s 30,” said Kim Debraal. “You just want to die; you just want to take their pain away.”
For thirty years, Debraal has taken care of her son, Michael. For more than a decade, however, his addiction to drugs has pushed the pair apart.
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) – Many churches and charities are getting ready to serve Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow to thousands of people in need, but one San Francisco organization opened its doors today.
One of the people cooking all of those dinners was once homeless himself.
On Thanksgiving, CityTeam on Sproul Street in Chester, served over 150 holiday dinners fine dining style complete with linen tablecloths, menus and waiter service. The guests weren’t the only ones thankful for the hospitality, which also included a to-go meal and a pie.
For a volunteer and a CityTeam staff member, gratitude was at the top of the menu.
