Update from the President
I want to provide you with an update on how CityTeam continues to serve during this important time and more information on our critical needs right now.
We are committed to continuing to help feed and care for our neighbors in greatest need. We’ve amplified our efforts to keep our staff and clients in healthy, safe environments.
Until required to do otherwise, following are the waysCityTeam is already expanding our services to meet the growing demand:
- We are now providing to-go meals from our kitchen so that we may continue our daily meal service to people in the most need in our community.
- We have shifted to a drive-thru approach for our pre-bagged grocery pick-up process across our 13 mobile pantry sites and have seen significant increases in the number of individuals and families coming for groceries.
- Our residential programs continue to operate under shelter-in-place guidelines with everyone doing their part to keep the community safe and running smoothly.
- We continue to operate our overnight shelter within the public health guidelines that have been established. Read More
How CityTeam will continue to serve our community in light of COVID-19
CityTeam is committed to keeping our doors open to provide food, shelter and essential care to our neighbors in need. We will do this while taking additional precautions to protect the health and well-being of our entire community.
We know that the people we serve will be very vulnerable during this critical time – and that living out God’s calling to “love our neighbors as ourselves” is something we need to do now more than ever.
The following are specific ways CityTeam services are adapting to enhance health and safety within our programs.
For our meal service:
- Per the new order effective Tues, March 17, we are serving our homeless guests with “To-go” boxes now. We are following requirements restaurants are adhering to in providing take-out services.
For our grocery distribution:
- We are minimizing the amount of food handling at our pantry locations. This will include distributing pre-packed bags of groceries. We will also manage the flow of guests throughout the pick-up process.
- Everyone is required to wash their hands, and use the gloves we provide at all times. We are taking a zero-tolerance policy to hand-cleanliness. If someone touches their face or phone, they must re-sanitize.
In our overnight shelter locations:
- We will be streamlining our daily check-in process to minimize exposure between staff and clients, and briefing our homeless guests on the hygiene and safety measures that are expected in our community.
- We will be using the space we have in new ways in order to create more distance between shelter guests.
- We will be distributing hygiene kits, including hand-washing supplies and increasing the number of hand washing stations with portable units.
For our residential programs:
- We are increasing daily cleaning and educating residents on health, safety and wellness measures. We will continue to do so throughout this critical time to ensure we keep our community as safe and thriving as possible.
- Visitation by volunteers, family, and friends has been discontinued for the safety of the men and women in our residential programs.
For our volunteers:
- We are discontinuing all volunteer shifts as a result of the order issued across six counties in the Bay Area.
