Life Stories
From Hopelessness to Healing and Hope
As a child, I grew up living in a small trailer for most of my life. My father was an alcoholic and there was nowhere to hide. At the early age of seven I was smoking cigarettes and bytwelve years of age, I was smoking pot. I soon became sexually active and began living on the streets most of the time while still trying to go to school.
My addiction had elevated to meth and I was caught at school with drugs and put on probation for a year. My parents really didn’t know where I was most of the time or how bad my addiction had become.
In order to escape the streets, I moved out into the country where I met a man much older than myself who fed my addiction and much more. Our relationship was physically abusive, but to feed my addiction, I lived with it day in and day out. I lived like that for two and half years. Then I found out I was pregnant and the relationship was over.
I was pregnant and homeless and had nothing. Someone told me I could get help at a place called Heritage Home. Since I arrived four months ago, I have received the counseling and support I so desperately needed. Inside Heritage Home, I have fellow sisters and a loving staff who guide and direct me. I’ve learned that it’s no longer about me but it’s about God and my child. This is my story and I am thankful to everyone who makes Heritage Home possible for someone like me.
