Volunteering at CityTeam Portland
Be Part of the Solution. You Can Make a Difference!

Volunteers are vital to the heartbeat of CityTeam Ministries this Holiday Season. With the support of hundreds of volunteers, we as a team can significantly effect change in the lives of the destitute and homeless. Together we can touch real lives, introduce real hope and provide tools for our clients to make real changes in their lives. It's about touching one life at a time.

We value your gifts - talents - commitment - service - and time. Volunteers are truly priceless to this outreach to the poor.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Annie Duhrkoop at aduhrkoop@cityteam.org or call her at 503-231-9334, ext. 124. Volunteer Orientation, held the third Saturday of every month, is required for all volunteers who wish to help on a regular basis (not required for serving meals). During this one hour introductory class, volunteers will tour the building, learn safety protocol and hear of various opportunities for ministry.

For helping during meal time, contact Roger Burke at rburke@cityteam.org or call 503-231-9334, ext. 130.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • CHURCH LIAISONS: Individuals who will act as ambassadors between the local church and CityTeam in leading various food, clothing or item drives or sharing of information about upcoming events or volunteer opportunities. Local collection drives of food or much needed blankets, toiletries or even toilet paper have a huge impact on our ability to provide more services, counseling or recovery to Portland’s neediest people.

  • SPECIAL EVENTS TEAM: Whether for our recovery graduations, Summer Bash, Turkey Tuesday, occasional Auction or Benefit Dinners, we need individuals who can help organize/plan, stuff & address invitations, procure auction items…or simply staff events so that they run as smoothly as possible.

  • EMERGENCY SHELTER ASSISTANTS: If you have time to significantly impact the kingdom, we need pick-up drivers for various donation and food pick-ups; graveyard shelter staff who can watch the shelter at night so our recovery men can focus on their recovery rather than miss a day of classes due to sleeping.

  • FOOD PREPARATION: Perhaps you would like to fill the role of cooking for the homeless for our main meal, or for the smaller group of our recovery men for lunch. Even church groups and adult classes can fill a need by supplying and preparing the meal for the homeless one evening a month. Both needs enable us to keep finances down and our men focused on their recovery rather than the stress of running a kitchen.

  • LEARNING CENTER TUTORS: Our adult learning center includes both traditional and computer based learning for adults dealing specifically with homeless or addiction issues. A variety of tutors allow for specialization of topics, as well as, a varied schedule necessary for quality learning and integration with recovery classes.

  • COMMUNITY PARTNERS: We are looking for individuals who would like to impact their community for Christ in a huge way. With training we can show you how to strategically work with low-income families throughout your own community, develop relationships and develop multiplying Bible studies in homes and apartments which will lead to our fulfilling God’s challenge to redeem our world in our generation. Small groups can also be involved with the various platform events such as food & clothing distributions, backpacks, holiday boxes--which give us purpose for being in a community and target those individuals God is already working on and can work through to impact their family and friends.

  • RECEPTION DESK HOSTS: Individuals who can host our reception desk will have the opportunity to do some light office duties such as phone messaging and mailings, as well as, interacting with donors, volunteers, staff and clients. You will also have opportunity to provide referrals of services for homeless clients during our office hours. As you become acquainted with referral information across the spectrum of both faith-based and secular agencies, you will have opportunity to assist with light case management in our various programs.
