Think Globally, Act Locally.

To serve the thousands of people CityTeam Oakland serves each year, we require many supplies.  Below are some suggestions for easy “recycled” donations and group projects.  For more suggestions, or to ask any questions, please contact us at 510-452-3758 ext.11 or contact Anette at aboulware@cityteam.org.

Keeping Oakland Clean
Hygiene items are always needed and this is a great project for Scouting troops, youth groups, or classrooms.  Each child chooses an item and brings 10 of them to class.  The class assembles the bags in large heavy duty Ziploc bags.  This can easily accompany a lesson on poverty, good citizenship, or even counting and matching for younger children.  Some suggested items to include:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Small bar of soap
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Lotion
  • Razor
  • Shaving lotion
  • Washcloth
  • Deodorant
  • Chapstick
  • Comb
  • Gift certificate for groceries or fast food
  • Rain poncho

We also need towels and small, hotel sized soaps, shampoos, conditioners and lotions for our daily showers.

The Clothes Off Our Backs

Our clothes are given to the homeless living on the street, staying in our shelter, to men in the recovery program, and to families from the community.  We often receive and still welcome donations of GOOD CONDITION women’s and children’s clothing, but are in special need of men’s clothing and accessories.  These are the most popular items and go quickly!  Additionally, as our residents move forward in their transformation, they put on the weight that drug and alcohol abuse has taken off and they outgrow their clothes.  Larger size men’s clothing is much appreciated.

Not Quite Martha Stewart’s Kitchen…
We prepare over 7,000 meals each month on a very small budget.  We receive regular donations from wonderful local grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and friends of the mission.  Some special items we are in need of include:

  • 5 Coated Aluminum Wire Shelving Units for Walk-In (approximately $150 each at East Bay Restaurant Supply) www.chefsfirst.com
  • Bakery rack sliders for the inside of our donated hot box
  • Significant remodel work on the upstairs pantry areas to provide better use and circulation
  • 10 - 5’ Aluminum Dunnage Racks (can be found for $89.99 each at East Bay Restaurant Supply) www.chefsfirst.com/ Product
  • Industrial style stock pots, frying pans, sauce pans, cookie sheets and steam table trays
