Counselor/Activity Staff
These individuals are the heart of our summer camp. Their
primary role is to initiate positive relationships with
each of the six to seven campers under their supervision
in the context of a safe, Christ-centered community that
welcomes racially diverse youth. This requires individuals
who love to interact with kids, are willing to find creative
ways to open a child’s heart to God’s love
and truth, and can adjust to the daily demands of a camp
environment. The Counselor/Activity Staff will be trained
in cross-cultural counseling skills and two activity
areas. These activity areas include, but are not limited
to, nature, BMX bike track, archery, crafts, leather,
pottery, drums, music, fishing, pool, various team sport
activities and video editing. The combination of counseling
and activity participation will vary from week to week.
These individuals must be willing to initiate activities
and respond to changing conditions while focusing on
the goal of enabling campers to experience God’s
grace. Previous experience with children/youth preferred.
Minimum age: 18
Nature Specialist
This individual would create and implement an instructional
nature program throughout the summer. Some of the
responsibilities include setting up the nature center,
assisting with the out-trip activity and teaching
the summer staff in the various nature activities.
Finally, this individual will assist in the daily
program and events whenever asked. S/he must be able
to teach children and youth, have an interest in
nature studies, be able to give directions to other
staff and be willing to live in a community environment.
Minimum age: 19
Craft Specialist
This individual would be responsible to implement and
oversee the craft, pottery and leather activities
throughout the summer. This includes, but is not
limited to, teaching the summer staff who will be
assigned to the area, monitoring all supplies, teaching
campers, and assisting the Activity/ Program staff
when necessary. S/he must be able to teach children
and youth, have an interest in Crafts, be able to
give directions to other staff and be willing to
live in a community environment. Minimum age: 19
Lifeguards
These individuals supervise the pool and other water
activities to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
Requires current Life Guard, First Aid and CPR (child/adult)
certification. Lifeguards will assist in other program
activities when not at any water event. Previous
lifeguard experience preferred. Minimum age: 18
Health Care Provider
This individual provides first aid to campers and staff
according to established medical protocols. S/he
will monitor the general physical health of staff
and campers and will make recommendations for prevention
of injuries and illness. Participation with the camper
program is encouraged as duties permit. Requires
First Aid/CPR (child/adult) certification at a minimum.
Student or Registered nurses preferred.
Minimum age: 19
Activity Leaders
These individuals prepare and manage all activity areas
and staff. Activity Leaders schedule camper activity
classes; plan and lead group activities; create,
coordinate, and participate in program elements including
skits, monologues, and songs; and ensure the health
and safety of the staff and campers. Must have good
organizational skills and a desire to lead others
in having fun. Previous MayMac experience preferred.
Minimum age: 19
Staff in Training Leaders
(A summer staff development program for high school
students.)
These individuals will implement the S.I.T. program
and actively build positive relationship with the high
school staff. S.I.T. Leaders will work closely with
the Program Coordinator in the overlap of the program,
specifically the daily work schedule and specific duties
of the students. S/he will provide spiritual leadership,
daily Bible studies, manage/teach skill instruction,
create recreational opportunities, and complete weekly
evaluations for the SIT staff. Must have strong organizational
and counseling skills. Previous MayMac or camp counseling
experience preferred. Minimum age: 20
Lead Counselors
These individuals will lead, direct, support and encourage
the counseling staff while working closely with the
Program Coordinator & Chaplain. Their primary
responsibility is to listen and quickly respond to
counselor/camper problems, questions, needs and when
appropriate, assist in resolving conflicts. They
will be available to relieve counselors, actively
participate in the daily program, and initiate relationship
with campers when possible. S/he will work closely
with the one-week volunteer counselors in their training
and orientation. Must have strong cross-cultural
counseling, discipleship and conflict resolution
skills. S/he must be able to model peer accountability
and a strong relationship with Jesus Christ. Previous
camp counseling required. Minimum age: 21
Program Coordinator:
These individuals manage the Activity Team. This team
is responsible for the creation and implementation
of a safe, fun, Christ-centered camp program for
our Junior and Junior High camps. The Program Coordinator’s
primary responsibility is to ensure a safe, healthy
camp environment and to oversee the daily program
for campers (spiritual and activities). S/he will
directly supervise the Activity Leaders and oversee
the supervision of the Activity staff. Finally, s/he
will work closely with the Young Life program team
in the implementation of the Junior High theme. S/he
must have strong organizational skills, the desire
to serve others, model peer accountability, and the
ability to direct people in Christ-like manner. Previous
cross-cultural camp and counseling experience required
and prefer prior MayMac experience. Minimum age:
21
One (or more) Week Volunteers
These individuals assist in the implementation of the
camp program where needed. Depending on experience,
skills and training, this could mean counseling,
activity and program, kitchen, and/or facility areas.
Must have a desire to serve others, be flexible,
and a willingness to initiate relationships with
campers and staff. Minimum age: 18.
