"I will bless you with a future filleds
with hope — a future of success, not of suffering." --
Jeremiah 29:11
For over 70 years Camp MayMac has been making a difference
in children and youth's lives for Jesus Christ in the
San Francisco Bay region. In the late thirties, Auntie
May and Uncle Mac, our founders, had the vision to
reach the homeless boys in the Santa Clara Valley.
Today, we provide the opportunity for 500+ campers,
a unique weeklong camping experience by combining God's
natural environment, creative teaching and exciting
program themes to significantly influence disadvantaged
youth. "We see the potential each child has and
desire to challenge them to maximize their God-given
abilities in order for them to impact the communities
they live in".
The campers primarily come from the low-income neighborhoods
of San Francisco's Tenderloin District & Bayview/Hunter's
Point, West Oakland, East Palo Alto, and East San Jose.
They ranged in age from 8-14 years. The kids are culturally
diverse: 40% are Latino/Hispanic, 45% African American,
10% Asian, 5% are White and American Indian. All of
the youth are economically disadvantaged and would
not have the opportunity to attend a week long camp
without the support of many businesses, churches and
individuals who give to CityTeam Ministries. Our vision
is "to raise up a new generation of urban youth
who are equipped to lead productive lives and empowered
to revitalize the communities whre they live to the
glory of God."
Our goal is to demonstrate and express the love of
God so campers can discover their "True" identity.
We provide opportunities for the youth to develop relationships
within the context of a safe, culturally sensitive
program. Campers experience a variety of individual,
small, and large group activities with the hope they
will gain confidence as they acquire new skills and
new relationships during their week. Activities include,
but not limited to, Chapel/Club, Basketball, Volleyball,
Floor Hockey, Archery, Crafts, Campfire, Swimming,
Nature activities, BMX bike track, Fishing* and Offsite
Events* (*Jr. high only). Our ratios are one-to-seven
counselor/camper and a one-to-four staff/camper.
