ICUT's CAADAC Courses
ICUT's format for courses is one course per month, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00pm to 9:30pm, plus a lab. The cost for each course is $300. Although recommended to be taken in order, the courses may be rearranged because of personal commitments.
  • CAS 006 Personal and Professional Growth - Begins April 6th, 2010
    Taught by Lorraine Kay Hutchinson, Psy.D. Adjunct Professor
    *Class may be cancelled in the event there is a lack of participation.
    This course highlights the professional growth of a counselor, certification requirements, and other topics of interest for the aspiring counselor. This course satisfies the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADAC) educational requirements for certification (4.5-quarter units).

  • CAS005 Individual, Family, & Group Counseling - January 5th, 2010
    This course is designed to help students focus on the objectives of counseling theories, processes, and dynamics.  This course satisfies the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADAC) educational requirements for certification (4.5-quarter units).   • CAS003a The 12 Steps and Their Roots in Alcoholics Anonymous
    November 2009
    - Began November 1st, 2009
    This course is designed to help students understand the 12 Steps as outlined by the founding members of Alcoholics Anonymous and how those steps are used today in recovery. This course satisfies the California Association of Alcohol and Drug Counselors (CAADAC) educational requirements for certification (3.5-quarter units). Download the course syllabus - click here
  • CAS004 Case Management - Began October 1st, 2009
    This course is designed to help students understand the core function of case
    management. This course satisfies the California Association of Alcohol and Drug

  • Overview of Addiction - Began September 1st, 2009
    This course is designed to examine the history of alcohol and other mood-changing drugs in the United States; the myths and stereotypes of drug and alcohol use; the socio-cultural factors that contribute to the use of drugs; and the patterns and progressions of addictions. This course satisfies CAADAC educational requirements for certification. (4.5 quarter units)

  • Physiology and Pharmacology
    Examines the different types of drugs and their effects.

  • Law and Ethics
    Focuses on professional responsibility and competence, confidentiality and privileged information, clients rights and informed consent, racism and sexism.

  • Case Management
    Is designed to help students understand clinical needs, plan treatment, and measure progress.

  • Individual, Group and Family Counseling
    Focuses on the objectives of counseling, theories, processes and dynamics.

  • Personal and Professional Growth
    Highlights the professional growth of a counselor, certification requirements, and other topics of interest for the aspiring counselor.

  • Supervised Practicum
    Consists of classroom course and 255 hours of student performing a supervised internship at an approved agency.
