Our ministry to the poor involves a lot of very
tangible items. There are a number of ways you can
become involved. Food is always in need at all our
ministry sites. There are Good Samaritan laws to encourage
the donation of food and products to nonprofit organizations
for distribution to needy individuals. This new law
makes it easier to donate. Please check the needs in
the city nearest you as posted on our web site.
CityTeam has ongoing food box programs that you can participate
in by organizing a food drive or special event in
your office, congregation, or community group to collect
food and raise money for people in need. Contact us at 1 (888)-CITYTEAM for further information. Clothing and household items are
also needed at many of our locations. Please check the
needs in the city nearest you throughout our web site.
Office & Computer Equipment: CityTeam is in need
of good usable office items so we can expend more
of our funds on the poor.
The general rule states that a taxpayer who contributes
appreciated inventory or certain other ordinary income
property is permitted a charitable deduction only
for an amount equal to the taxpayer's basis in the
contributed property, not its fair market value. Congress
refined this statute in 1976 to allow corporate donors
an increased deduction, under certain circumstances,
for contributions of ordinary income property to a
public charity. If you are considering making such
a gift and would like to know more about this, please
call (888)-CITYTEAM. Of course, donors should always
consult with a tax advisor in determining their specific
deduction. You can also view a document from the IRS that addresses donated goods by clicking here. |
