CITYTEAM Urgently Needs Help with
Katrina Rebuilding Project!

CityTeam is helping rebuild 52 homes in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi with the support from The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trade in Media, PA

Chester, PA., March 3, 2006, CityTeam Ministries is a non-profit organization serving the poor and homeless in the Delaware Valley. CityTeam is also committed to helping people rebuild their lives and homes in the city of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi after the Katrina disaster that hit just over six months ago. Since the first week of the disaster, CityTeam has been providing counseling, food, clothing, and other life saving services. Now CityTeam is rebuilding homes, so families can rebuild their lives outside of their FEMA trailer. CityTeam has 52 families waiting on the home rebuilding list but it takes skilled labor workers and financial funds to complete the work. These families feel hopeless because they have no where else to turn to right now.

“We currently have 36 skilled labor students ready to travel to Bay St. Louis , Mississippi but we have little financial funds left to support these students. The students are from The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in Media, PA said Richard Williams, Director of CityTeam Chester.” “I am very appreciative that these students are willing to spend their spring break working hard, rebuilding. homes for people that desperately need help. Unfortunately, because CityTeam has been sending 70 volunteers a month since the day the disaster happen, we are now facing a situation where we don’t have the funds to continue this great work. It costs about $250 for airfare for each volunteer like these students. On the average, each home requires us to spend about $17,500 to make the home livable once again. These 52 homes have already been cleaned of the mud and mold. The students will paint, wire, install windows and doors, insulation, repair roofs and several other projects.

Williamson Carpentry Instructor Ken Nelson said “everyone at the school is enthusiastically behind the effort; we are looking forward to partnering with Cityteam to use our skills and knowledge to help as many people as possible get back into their homes and rebuild their lives. Any support from the local community here in the Delaware Valley and the greater Philadelphia area would be appreciated. The students are leaving in less than two weeks and all 36 students are still in need of sponsors.”

“This is a great opportunity for everyone in the community to get involved with Katrina Relief by sponsoring one of these outstanding students” said Bill Strine of Media Real-Estate who was one of the first to offer help.
