CityTeam Responds to Hurricane Gustav
Providing shelter and emergency supplies
The heart of Hurricane Gustav might have missed New Orleans and the coastal area of Hancock County, Mississippi but it created severe flooding. All throughout the storm the National Guard conducted dramatic rescues of people in Waveland and Bay St. Louis.
CityTeam Ministries has been on the ground in Bay St. Louis helping families since the first week of Hurricane Katrina. During Gustav, The team packed up the CityTeam camp, storing everything at the donated Roller-skate building nearby and evacuating all the volunteers. Now the team is preparing to rush right back in to help. The camp will immediately start housing volunteer groups, cooking meals, supplying water and providing other emergency essentials. Volunteer teams will be assigned to help individual families and the elderly in their homes to recover belongings and start rebuilding.

We need everyone’s help to respond to these families and the elderly of Bay St. Louis and Hancock County.
I estimate that we will need over $200,000 to respond quickly and help these families that didn’t have anything left after Katrina and now have been hit one more time. And we anticipate there are more hurricanes to come. If everyone could donate $50 or $100 we would have enough to help so many people. By donating on-line we can quickly gather enough funds. As you read this update, could you donate on-line right now?
CityTeam is partnering with HANDS of Mississippi that has a large warehouse in Jackson, MS that can store all the gifts of kinds that are donated to help families rebuild such as flooring, carpet, dry wall, wood, etc. If you are a corporation that can donate these items as quickly as possible, contact Donna Tente at dtente@cityteam.org.
We are also in desperate need of more volunteers that can travel to Bay St. Louis to help with the rebuilding. Some families are still in their FEMA trailers and some have just finished their new homes – the quicker we can help them the quicker we can try to save what they have. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tanya Liston at tliston@cityteam.org or 408-232-5637.
Thank you to everyone that can help today by donating or volunteering. We need you!

Partner with us to help repair the 3,900 homes damaged by flooding in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
CityTeam Disaster Response has received funding from a generous partner enabling us to respond to the Midwest flooding. At this point we have assessed the damage and will be deploying to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where 3,900 homes were affected by the flooding. We are recruiting volunteers to help the flood victims gut and sanitize their damaged homes to prepare for the rebuilding process.
Your support will enable CityTeam Disaster Response to carry out our relief plan and minister to those who have lost everything because of this recent flooding. If you would like further information about volunteering call Tanya Liston at 408.232.5637.
Update: we have finished 17 homes and more to come.
Hurricane Katrina: A Note from the Director
3 Years of Rebuilding and Restoration
I can’t believe it has been three years since Hurricane Katrina swept through Bay St. Louis Mississippi. I remember the first month when we sheltered and feed people every day. CityTeam Disaster Response has been working in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi since Hurricane Katrina hammered the Gulf Coast in August of 2005 and our work is still not complete..more
Volunteer Teams from CityTeam Disaster Response worked to restore 11 homes that were severly damaged after the Arkansas Floods hit Baxter County.

CityTeam Disaster Response crews rushed to the flood zone to help families survive this devastating disaster. In the midst of this trial families who had suffered a great loss found reasons to smile and were encouraged by CityTeam staff and volunters. We were blessed with multiple opportunities to minister to families and individuals through prayer and by meeting their felt needs. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, skill sets and resources to help those in need.
